Classic Salt Beef Sandwich served

Prep time & cook time : 5 1/2 hours including beef cooking time. Servings: 4 sandwiches


  • 1 kilo raw salt beef

Muslin cloth bag containing;

  • 2 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp black peppercorns
  • 1 star anise
  • 2 cloves
  • light rye bread bloomer
  • sauerkraut
  • frenchy’s mustard
  • dill pickles sliced


  1. Cover the salt beef with water in a large pan, bring to the boil, re-fresh with cold water and place back on the stove with the muslin bag of spices. Simmer for 4-5 hours until the beef is falling apart.
  2. Slice the rye bread and toast or grill them.
  3. Slice the beef and layer up the sandwich, great with bagels too.
